Steeped in a seven generation tradition of growing and cultivating coffee is this gem from El Salvador which we are so proud to say is brought to you by our dear friend Eduardo “Guayo” Palomo.

Palomo Coffee

Palomo Coffee is the expression of seven generations of family heritage, rooted in the people, volcanic terroir, and coffee forests of El Salvador’s Lamatepec Mountain range. The Palomo story dates back to the 1850s on both sides of the family, in the Lamatepec Mountain range, flanked by the Izalco and Santa Ana volcanoes. From 1,000 to 2,000 meters above sea level, generations of coffee growers built a way of life around cultivation, stewardship, and community.

Terroir and Varieties

On the Palomo side, Guayo’s father, high-altitude Bourbon prevailed. On the Pacas side, Guayo’s mother,  sat a lower altitude farm and the development of the Pacas variety which allowed for higher-density planting, demanding greater technical expertise in farm management.  The plantations are nestled in the rainforest and rich volcanic soils of the Lamatepec Mountain range. These deep, fertile organic soils provide the intensity and richness of the coffee beans, which come from ancestral Bourbon and eight other Arabica varieties.

Commitment to the Future

Guayo has collaborated with World Coffee Research to establish its first experimental farm in El Salvador. As a member of the external advisory board of the Texas A&M Center for Coffee Research and Education, Guayo has committed to bringing scientific knowledge to the challenges facing coffee farmers, their communities, and the environment.

Buena Vista is a coffee reservation of old and new varieties, where seventh-generation employees help preserve the culture, protect the fragile tropical coffee forest, and offer others the opportunity to discover what they love most about coffee.
